Here we present part three of our series focused on nature studies by Lyonel Feininger (1871–1956) from the collection of the distinguished art historian and museum director Alois J. Schardt (1889–1955), highlighting 14 particularly fine nature studies that Feininger made during a visit to Normandy in the summer of 1906.

“And the sea is marvelous here….There are magnificently picturesque cliffs here and a beacon…in the evening when they light the fire it is, after all, quite beautiful.”
—Julia Berg to her parents, Jenny and Bernhard Lilienfeld, Quiberville, August 10, 1906
