At the core of art advisory lies the strength of the relationship between the advisor and his client. Among the many collections I have helped to build and foster was that of the late John C. Whitehead, with whom I had the privilege of collaborating over a period of thirty-four years. During that time we formed not only an important collection of Impressionist and Modern masterworks, but also a fast and meaningful friendship. When John passed away in February 2015 I was charged with the disposition of his art, leading to dedicated single-owner evening and day auctions at Christie’s. I was highly gratified by the record prices realized, exceeding $70 million, which more than doubled pre-sale estimates. More importantly, I feel quite certain that John would have been equally pleased to know his art found welcoming homes. – Achim Moeller
